New partnership enhancing research grant program to help moms and kids

Updated: Jun 23, 2023

(SASKATOON, SK) – Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation is excited to partner with Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF), in order to fund the very best maternal and pediatric research projects across Saskatchewan.

Each year, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation (JPCHF) grants up to $400,000 to the province’s medical community to conduct vital research to discover, evaluate, and incorporate new approaches to delivery of care, maintaining health, and preventing and curing disease.

The JPCHF Research Grant Program aims to support research projects with the potential to enhance maternal and pediatric health care, with priority interest areas including novel therapeutics, Indigenous health, remote access and artificial intelligence and other improvements to quality of care.

While JPCHF will continue to be the sole funder of its research grants, SHRF will now provide a high-quality grant review process by administering the call for research, managing application intake, carrying out the peer review process and handling the administration of research dollars. Together, JPCHF and SHRF will work closely during the selection process and management of the grants.

“This partnership with Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation strengthens our vision to become a world-leader in maternal and pediatric care, and through innovative and important research improve the lives of Saskatchewan children and families,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Thanks to generous donors who see the value of this vital work, we can become a leader that will impact the population we serve throughout our province and well beyond those borders.”

“SHRF is a trusted, neutral convenor of multiple stakeholder groups in the health research ecosystem,” said Patrick Odnokon, CEO of Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation. “We’re happy to be able to partner with JPCHF to provide support by administering this call for research that will help us achieve our common goals of contributing to the growth of a high-performing health system, building a culture of innovation and improving the health of citizens.”

The eligibility cut-off for research grants will be Nov. 14, with the application deadline set for Jan. 16, 2020. Funding decisions will be made on March 31, 2020.

Previously, grants were reviewed by Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Committee, as well as a Grants Committee.
